How can I become Russian citizen?


US  citizens who signed a contract on service in the Russian Armed Forces, army or military formations for at least a year will be able to obtain citizenship of Russia under a simplified procedure without obtaining a residence permit.

Will I get Russian Citizenship after one year of service?

Yes. You will. 

Do I have to prove a legal source of income in Russia?

No, you don't.

Do I have to pass Russian Language Test?

No, you don't

Do I have to participate in Combat Operations?

Yes. 6 months from 1 year contract US Citizen has to participate in combat operations.

Can my wife and my children apply for a citizenship after one year?

Yes. ​Family members can apply for Russian citizenship using the simplified procedure as well (children, including adopted children, spouses and parents)

What if I die, what happens?

In case of death of the US citizen  his or her family members do not lose their right to participate in the program and can apply for citizenship using simplified procedure as well.

Do I need to provide my Police check from the USA?

Yes, you do. Please remember that this document is valid for 90 days since the date of issuance.

Do I have to do medical examination.

Yes. You will do that in Russia. You will not be able to secure the contract if you have HIV, hepatitis B or C, type I diabetes, as well as moderate bronchial asthma.

Do I need to provide my educational papers?

Yes. You do.

Are there any benefits?

Compulsory full state insurance of servicemen and their property;

Exemption from the income tax on service pays, monetary bonuses and other allowances due to servicemen during the term of their military service; exemption from the land tax and individual property tax;

Payment of the entire residential space occupied by the servicemen and their family members in the houses of state, municipal and departmental housing funds; payment of communal services in any type of housing; installation and use of the telephone at a maximum of 50% fee. For the houses without central heating, servicemen are granted a 50% discount on the cost of fuel acquired within standard consumer quantities.

Your children will study for free at Russian universities.
